SYNOPSIS
Amalia is trapped in a vision: the Orphanage lies in ruins, smoke curling through shattered beams, and Penance lies dead beneath the wreckage. The image is visceral, suffocating — a warning of what is to come. She wakes abruptly, tied back‑to‑back with Penance, both bound and helpless as Lavinia fires repeatedly at the Galanthi. Each shot reverberates through the cavern.
The Galanthi’s pain ripples outward. Every Touched across London feels it — a sudden, wrenching shock that severs their connection to their powers. As abilities flicker out, Purist forces launch a coordinated attack on the Orphanage, striking while the Touched are vulnerable.
Hearing the Galanthi’s cries echo through the city, Maladie rallies her followers. Her cult surges into the mines, overwhelming Lavinia’s guards with ferocity and devotion. Lavinia flees through the tunnels, but her escape ends abruptly when she encounters Augie. Broken by betrayal and years of manipulation, Augie kills her.
While Maladie’s cult remains with the dying Galanthi, Amalia, Penance, and Myrtle race toward the Orphanage. The building is under siege, its walls shaking with gunfire and explosions. At the entrance, Amalia stops Penance from going inside, knowing the vision she saw is moments away from becoming real. She steps forward alone, fighting the Purists with nothing but her training and sheer will. She falls beneath the assault, seemingly dead.
Elsewhere, Massen arrives at the Orphanage searching for his daughter. Mundi and Swann confront him, blocking his path. The confrontation turns deadly. Massen kills Swann, but Mundi kills Massen in turn — ending the man responsible for orchestrating London’s anti‑Touched violence.
Deep underground, the Galanthi reaches the end of its life. In its final moments, it restores the Touched’s powers, sending a wave of energy through the city. Then its body dissolves into shimmering “seeds” — fragments of itself that drift upward, destined to grant abilities to people across the world. The Touched rally, defeating the remaining Purists.
Amalia awakens in a quiet, luminous space — another conversation with the Galanthi. It shows her the meaning behind its test: the value of sacrifice, of choosing others over oneself, of hope forged through pain. She returns to life renewed, her purpose clarified.
But while Amalia’s hope is restored, Penance’s is shattered. To her, the Galanthi’s death is not a triumph but a tragedy — a creature that came to help, only to die “colonizing” the world and making it more complicated. The future feels heavier, not brighter.
Meanwhile, Myrtle returns to Maladie’s cult. As she approaches, the energy‑based time‑traveller — freed from Hague’s machinery — possesses her, setting the stage for a new threat.
