Mal “Why do I open my mouth?”
Zoë “Sir, we’re none of us sure.”
There’s a whole crowd gathered on this nameless rock, watchin’ some fancy Alliance type show off an armed tactical drone — sleek, deadly, and priced higher than a moon. Folks ooh and ahh as it fires, dances, and kills on command.

Meanwhile, out past the edges of polite society, Mal Reynolds and his crew are busy liberatin’ a stash of ancient artwork from folks who ain’t appreciatin’ it proper. They pile the goods into a beat‑up truck and tear off down the highway, engines howlin’, tyres screamin’.

That’s when the drone spots ’em.
It peels off from the demo like a hawk scentin’ blood, swoopin’ down on Serenity’s crew with guns hot. Mal and the others fire back, dodgin’ through traffic, swearin’ loud enough to shake the sky. The whole chase is bein’ watched by the man runnin’ the demonstration — eyes bright, takin’ notes like this is all part of the sales pitch.

By grit, luck, and Jayne’s questionable drivin’, the crew manages to outsmart the drone, knock it cold, and haul it away along with the art. Another day’s work done, more or less.

Elsewhere, Inara Serra entertains a client named Ephraim Sanda — polite, wealthy, refined. But in her mind’s eye, she keeps seein’ someone else standin’ where he is. Someone with a coat, a scowl, and a talent for makin’ her life difficult.
Back planetside, the crew presents the stolen drone to a buyer who’s less than pleased to find it missin’ its logic core. Mal tells him he’ll get the core once the money’s in hand. Buyer says he ain’t got the coin. Mal says that’s his problem.
Then the buyer mentions treasure — a whole heap of it — guarded, hidden, and ripe for the takin’. He hands over the location, and Mal’s eyes get that dangerous shine.
The crew heads out to a Buddhist temple, quiet as snowfall. They slip inside, find the stash, and haul it out. When Mal counts the take, his jaw goes slack.
It ain’t just money.

It’s more money than they’ve ever seen.
More than they’ve ever dreamed.
For the first time in a long while, Mal Reynolds stands there dumbstruck, starin’ at a future that looks downright shiny.
CONTINUITY
Simon is wearing the same glasses he had in Serenity, but here it’s revealed they’re special, designed to stop sensors in the environment from scanning his retinas.
This marks the first appearance of Serenity’s new Mule, a larger antigravity vehicle. The previous Mule was damaged, possibly beyond repair, during War Stories.
A Buddhist monk recognises Jayne by his face and his act of giving money, seeing him as the hero of Canton. This nods to the episode Jaynestown, where it’s revealed that Jayne is celebrated in the town of Canton on Higgins’ Moon for stealing from wealthy industrialists and giving the loot to the poor.
