SYNOPSIS
Angel and the team track a client who’s gone on the run, only to discover five dead nuns. Unable to stomach working with such evil, Angel abruptly walks out, declaring he quits. The next morning, the gang gathers in his office to discuss his potential resignation. Gunn argues against it, while Fred urges Angel to reconsider. Then, the phone rings – it’s Cordelia.
Angel and Wesley rush to the hospital. Cordelia, awake and eager to leave, greets Angel with a hug. Wesley follows suit, complimenting her. Thrilled to be out, Cordy suggests shopping instead of heading back to the hotel. Arriving at Wolfram & Hart, Cordy hesitates before stepping out of the lift, unnerved by the unfamiliar surroundings. She shrinks back upon seeing Archduke’s slave wandering the offices. Angel reassures her and offers to show her his office.
Inside, the team welcomes her back warmly – until Harmony bounces in. Cordy is shocked to see Harmony working for Angel, having last encountered her as an enemy. Angel pulls Cordy aside for a private talk.
Angel tries to convince her they’re doing good, but Cordy insists the Powers woke her for a reason. She recounts a vision – tattoos on walls and flesh. Their conversation is interrupted when Eve arrives, startling Angel with her presence. When Cordy introduces herself, Eve is visibly displeased. Angel orders Harmony to track Eve while Cordy warns him – accepting Wolfram & Hart is a deal with the devil.
Meanwhile, Spike plays Xbox until Lindsey arrives, questioning why he’s been laying low. Spike reminds him about his severed hands, prompting Lindsey to relate his own experience of losing a hand. He assures Spike that once a vision comes through, he’ll be back in action. A call interrupts them – it’s Eve, revealing Cordy is awake. Lindsey tells her plans are shifting.
At Angel’s penthouse, Cordelia watches an old tape of Doyle from her Angel Investigations days. She confesses she can’t sleep – she’s already had enough rest. She warns Angel that he’s been seduced by Wolfram & Hart, but he counters, revealing Connor’s rewritten life. Only he and Cordelia remember him; everyone else has forgotten. Cordy is unsettled, but Angel insists it was the only way. She reminds him that the Powers sent her back for a reason – to get him back on track.
The next day, Cordy and Wesley research the tattoos from her vision. Cordy apologizes for Lilah’s death, but Wesley reassures her – it wasn’t really her. Then, she stumbles upon the book they need. The symbols are meant to keep something hidden.
Lindsey, disguised as maintenance, infiltrates Wolfram & Hart. Evading security measures, he reaches a demon, kills it, and retrieves a crystal. Meanwhile, Cordy finds herself lost in the offices, where Spike suddenly attacks and bites her. Angel tears him off. Spike defends himself – he was told she lacked a soul and was testing her. His soul confirmed her innocence. Spike lets slip that the informant calls himself “Doyle,” has visions, and is tattooed. Eve, spying the conversation, secretly calls Lindsey – before Angel and Cordy suddenly confront her.
Angel interrogates Eve in front of the team. She refuses to speak – until Harmony enthusiastically volunteers for torture, throwing punches. Under duress, Eve spills – there’s something in the basement, designed solely to kill Angel if the Senior Partners lose control of him. Doyle, Lindsey in disguise, intends to release it. When Angel asks Spike for more details, Spike recalls Lindsey’s missing hand – confirming his identity.
The team splits up: Angel, Spike, and Cordelia head to the basement while Fred, Gunn, Lorne, and Wesley seek a way to remove Lindsey’s protection tattoos. Harmony keeps watch over Eve.
In the basement, Angel, Spike, and Cordelia trip laser defences, triggering a horde of zombies. Spike handles them while Angel and Cordy push forward to confront Lindsey. He’s stronger than before – easily hurling Angel across the room. As Cordy attempts to shut down the machine housing the deadly entity, Angel and Lindsey battle. At first, Lindsey overpowers Angel, but a spark reignites Angel’s strength, and he brutalizes Lindsey. Cordy successfully shuts down the machine before it releases its prisoner. Meanwhile, Wesley’s spell removes Lindsey’s tattoos – exposing him to the Senior Partners, who instantly pull him into the unknown.
The team reunites to send Eve packing. They agree to celebrate with drinks, and Angel grabs his coat. Cordelia follows, telling him she’s fulfilled her purpose and can’t stay. Tearfully, she bids farewell, rushing back to kiss him one last time. They embrace as the office phone rings. Cordy tells him he must answer it. As Angel picks up, she softly says that he’s welcome.
Angel answers. It’s the hospital – Cordelia Chase never woke up. She’s gone.
