“The end of magic has made me just another doddering old fool with a house full of rubbish and dreary stories of days gone by.“

First Appearance: Live Through This (Part 3)
Alasdair Coames was a formidable Archmage, a scholar of demon biology, and an old ally of Rupert Giles. His career stretched back decades — from the Ley Line War of ’78 to the 1970 massacre of Pearl and Nash’s hybrid children, an act that made him their lifelong nemesis. Coames belonged to the old guard of magic: powerful, principled, and deeply enmeshed in the supernatural conflicts that shaped the modern world.
When the Seed of Wonder was destroyed and magic vanished from Earth, Alasdair lost his powers and reinvented himself as a collector of magical creatures and artefacts. Even without spellcasting, he remained a vital resource. Angel and Faith sought him out for his expertise on Mohra demons, and he became a reluctant but indispensable partner in the effort to resurrect Giles — warning Faith of the dangers, then ultimately offering his entire collection as the power source needed to complete the ritual.
In the new world of Magic Town, Coames continued to aid Angel’s fight against rising threats. He helped procure a Najakot demon to counter Amy Madison and remained one of the few surviving experts capable of navigating the fractured magical landscape. Though no longer an Archmage in practice, Alasdair Coames remained what he had always been: a guardian of knowledge, a man shaped by old wars, and a reminder that even without magic, wisdom can still change the course of a battle.
