SYNOPSIS
Wesley watches Illyria in Fred’s lab, unmoving. Angel enters, urging him to face reality – Fred is gone. He suggests testing Illyria’s abilities, given she’s staying.
Later, Wesley meets a couple whose son miraculously survived a high-speed collision. He accepts the case but is shut down by Angel before he can proceed. In the lobby, a familiar voice greets Angel – Connor. He passes Angel, heading to his father. Wesley challenges Angel on rejecting the case, but Angel is firm – good people don’t last at Wolfram & Hart.
Meanwhile, Gunn endures endless torture in suburban hell. His heart is ripped out, only for his memories to reset. He’s handed the oven bulb and sent back into his routine.
At Wolfram & Hart, Spike spars with Illyria, taking repeated hits. Wesley warns he doesn’t have to, but Spike shrugs it off. Illyria enjoys the dominance.
Hamilton arrives, and Angel angrily confronts him. Hamilton calmly denies the Senior Partners’ involvement – someone is sending Angel a message.
Connor and his parents, suspecting the real issue is his accident, pull into a motel. Suddenly, demons rip the SUV door off, attacking. Connor instinctively throws a powerful punch, shocking himself. He’s overwhelmed – until Angel intervenes, finishing the fight. Connor is impressed. His father, injured, accepts Angel’s offer to bring them to Wolfram & Hart.
At the office, Angel walks Connor through the world of vampires and demons. Connor struggles to process his new abilities, while Angel reassures him – he’s still normal. Then Spike crashes out of the training room, cursing Illyria. Angel introduces Connor to his team, where Illyria detects Connor’s attraction. Lorne arrives with key intel.
In the conference room, Wesley and Lorne identify the attackers—Kith’harn demons, henchmen of Cyvus Vail. Angel sets out to confront him, ignoring Wesley’s protests. Wesley, determined, requests full records on Vail. Meanwhile, Angel finds Vail, violently tossing a demon aside as a greeting. Vail, unfazed, reveals he built Connor – his memories, his past. Now, Connor must fulfil a prophecy – to kill Sahjhan, whom Vail has trapped in an urn. As leverage, Vail presents an Orlon Window: breaking it near someone with altered memories restores their true past.
At Wolfram & Hart, Harmony delivers files on Vail, joined by a wandering Illyria. Lorne uncovers Vail’s reality shift spell – cast the day Angel took over.
Back at Vail’s, he confirms Connor’s fabricated history – and now Connor must embrace his old self to complete the prophecy. Angel updates Wesley and Connor. Wesley remains wary, but Connor is ready to act, wanting to protect his family.
In suburban hell, Hamilton offers Gunn an escape, but Gunn refuses before hearing details – choosing to stay.
Angel and Connor train ahead of Connor’s battle with Sahjhan. Meanwhile, Wesley searches records, Illyria shadowing him. He uncovers a document signed in Angel’s blood – nothing is as it seems.
At Vail’s, Connor sets his own terms before releasing Sahjhan. Sahjhan initially thanks him – until recognizing Connor. He throws the urn at Connor’s head. Angel attempts to intervene but is blocked by a barrier.
Wesley arrives, holding the Orlon Window. Angel pleads with him, then reveals – Connor is his son. Stunned, Wesley accuses Angel of sacrificing Fred for Connor’s safety. Ignoring Angel, Wesley shatters the Orlon Window. Flooded with memories, Wesley is visibly shaken.
Connor struggles against Sahjhan – until the Orlon Window shifts something within him. He regains control and decapitates Sahjhan. Angel rushes to check on him, relieved – Connor doesn’t appear to remember his old life.
At Wolfram & Hart, Illyria confronts Wesley about his betrayal – both to Angel and Connor. Wesley, overwhelmed, grapples with the truth.
Angel broods at his window. Connor enters, joking about vampires and sunlight. Casually, he tells Angel he’s leaving and won’t mention anything to his parents. As he walks toward the elevators, he turns back, offering a final lesson: “You’ve got to do what you have to do to protect your family. I learned that from my father.”
Connor remembers.
Angel remains in his doorway, watching his son walk away.
TRIVIA
Connor’s adoptive family, unnamed in Home, are given the surname Reilly for this episode.
CONTINUITY
Spike and Illyria begin their sparring and start to form a bond – it will keep them both alive in After the Fall.
While Connor is battling Sahjhan, Angel critiques his fighting style – just as he did from a distance in The House Always Wins.
Sahjhan has been locked in the Urn since Forgiving which is when the prophecy concerning his death at Connor’s hands was first brought up.
Connor mentions that he’s attracted to older women. Angel makes a comment that ‘they were supposed to fix that’ – he’s referring to Cordelia.
Although Hamilton says that the Senior Partners had nothing to do with Connor’s sudden return, Vail, as the person responsible, will later be revealed to be part of the Circle of the Black Thorn – the Senior Partners ‘instruments on Earth’. It’s presumably an attempt at destabilising Angel before they make their move in Power Play.
Wesley gets his memories back in this episode and it’s heavily implied that Connor did too, which is confirmed in Not Fade Away.
