The Movie

“You Can’t Stop the Signal.” “Keep Flying.” “You Can’t Take the Sky From Me.”

All words and phrases spelt out by Joss Whedon and Browncoats everywhere. Serenity, the spin-off from the cancelled series Firefly, was released in September 2005, and is a successful continuation of Mal Reynold’s story to evade the Alliance and successfully shelter fugitives Simon and River Tam from their pursuers.

Over the course of the film, River is pursued by a ruthless Alliance agent known only as the Operative, who has no compulsions or qualms about killing, which he shows dramatically by murdering an entire colony of people headed by former Serenity crewmember Derrial Book, who is tragically caught in the crossfire.

As the action continues, Mal comes across the secret that has shattered River’s mind, the origin of the cannibalistic Reavers and determines to spread the word of the Alliance’s involvement throughout the Verse. However, they are pursued by both the Alliance and the Reavers, and come the movie’s conclusion, not all of Serenity‘s crew will survive…

Can Mal keep flying?

Welcome to The Watcher’s Guide, a resource, quite fittingly, back from the dead!

The original website shut down in 2004, following the cancellation of Angel. Now with a new show set in the BuffyVerse eagerly anticipated by fans old and new and featuring the return of Sarah Michelle Gellar as Buffy, it’s time to spruce up The Watcher’s Guide for a new generation.

All the episodes have been added, along with notes, biographies and continuity references. But as always, one question remains… Where Do We Go From Here?
