Scott Hope was a student at Sunnydale High, part of the senior class of 1999. In late 1998, Scott made an attempt to date Buffy, but Buffy proved resilient due to her pain over losing Angel. Nevertheless, when Slayer Faith Lehane made her moves on Scott, Buffy became more receptive to the idea and asked Scott out. The pair continued their relationship for at least two weeks, during which their relationship was tested by the death of Scott’s friends Pete and Debbie. Eventually, Scott and Buffy ended their relationship just before the Homecoming dance which he was scheduled to take her to. Making the excuse that Buffy had become distant (this was due, in part, to Angel’s surprise return), Scott in actuality went to the dance with another girl. Faith rendered Scott’s new relationship moot by embarrassing him in front of his new lover. Years later, Buffy discovered that Scott had come out of the closet and had declared himself as gay.
