Rona

The black chick always gets it first.

Arriving in Sunnydale in late 2002, Rona was a Potential Slayer who initially wanted nothing to do with her new allies or her mysterious calling. As the situation in Sunnydale worsened, however, she had no choice but to accept that she might one day be the Slayer, and she joined the ranks of Buffy’s small but formidable group. Rona was activated during the final battle with the First Evil and wielded the Scythe with determination. She was wounded in the fighting, and as the bus fled the collapsing town, Vi did her best to keep Rona conscious despite her injuries. Whether Rona survived the aftermath was not immediately known.

In the years that followed, as the Slayer Organization took shape, Rona emerged as the leader of the Chicago squad — the very unit where Buffy’s underground decoy first served. It was Rona who offered the decoy her assignment, recognising the tactical value of Buffy’s public presence being maintained. Later, faced with the ongoing difficulties posed by Simone Doffler, Rona reassigned the rogue Slayer to Andrew Wells’s squad in Italy, hoping that a less urban environment might temper Simone’s “rough edges.” Buffy later speculated that Rona had simply been “passing the buck” to Andrew, but the decision reflected Rona’s pragmatic leadership style within the expanding Slayer ranks.
