Kathy Newman was Buffy’s first roommate during her first semester at U.C. Sunnydale. Unknown to Buffy who was trying her best to hide her role as the Slayer from her roommate, Kathy was actually a demon from an unknown dimension, daughter of the lord Tapparich. She had come to this dimension simply to study and was well over a century old. Slowly, Kathy had been draining Buffy’s soul and drawing it into herself in an attempt to avoid detection by her father. Ultimately, Buffy discovered her plan and fought her to a standstill, drawing her soul back into herself. Kathy was then found and returned to her home dimension by her angry father.
